On Saturday 21 October, eleven families struggled through the flooded roads caused by Storm Babet to reach Lower Drayton Farm in Stafford for the CHECT family day. Thanks to a kind donation from Tescos in Shirley (having been nominated by Harry Hanlon’s auntie Michelle Jones), the children were able to choose a Halloween fancy dress outfit when they arrived to get them in the mood! Over lunch, everyone had the chance to chat and get to know each other. We then had eleven CHECT Champion awards: eleven children either affected by retinoblastoma themselves, or the brother or sister of a child who had had retinoblastoma. It was lovely to be able to take the time to celebrate how amazing they had all been, and to give them a certificate and CHECT goody bag, which seemed to go down well!
It was then time to head outside to take our trailer ride to the pumpkin patch, where we had the opportunity to pick not only pumpkins to carve for Halloween, but also carrots and potatoes! We all got a bit muddy and messy, but it was great fun.
