New Year’s resolutions are notoriously hard to keep. Make sure you stick to yours and give yourself that feel good feeling in 2017 by taking on a CHECT challenge

Each year, a third of Brits make a New Year’s resolution, according to The Sun – with losing weight being top of the list – but very few of us manage to stick to them. In fact, a study by the University of Bristol found that 88% of people failed.

But there’s no need to feel doomed before you’ve even started – we’re here to help!

If losing weight, getting fit, trying something new, volunteering or helping a good cause are on your list of priorities for 2017, taking on a challenge for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust is just what you need to give you the motivation to succeed.

Signing up for one of our walking, running or cycling events will not only give you something to work towards, spurring you on to lace up those trainers and get pounding the streets, it will also give you the amazing feeling of knowing that you are supporting families affected by retinoblastoma.

In 2017 it’s our 30th birthday and we would absolutely love it if you could help us celebrate by supporting us. Here are our top three challenge events of the year:

Hampton Court Half Marathon

The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust is very proud to be one of the charity partners of the Hampton Court Half Marathon, which is on Sunday 19 February. The run is over a flat course which takes you along a beautiful route bordering the riverside grounds of Hampton Court Palace in southwest London.

We are looking for runners to join Team CHECT – everyone who takes part will be given a special runners vest, a fundraising pack and lots of support from the cheer team on the day.

You don’t even need to run to be part of this fantastic day! We are also looking for volunteers who can help out on the day, acting as race marshals. For every volunteer CHECT provides, we will receive a donation from the organisers.

Great Newham London Run

If a half marathon is a bit too daunting, or you want a little more time to train, the Great Newham London 10k Run could be just the thing for you. The event, on 2 July 2017, is held in the Olympic Village with an absolutely breathtaking finish where runners do a lap of the famous 2012 Olympic Stadium and cross the same finish line as Usain Bolt, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Mo Farah. This is a real Chariots of Fire moment not to be missed!

The main run is open to anyone aged 15 and over but there is also a shorter distance family fun run for children aged five and over who want to take part with their parents.

Anyone who runs for Team CHECT will receive a runners vest, fundraising pack and support from the cheer squad on the day.

London to Paris Bike Ride

If cycling is more your thing, now’s your chance to take part in one of the most exciting events in the calendar. On 13 September 2017 you could join hundreds of other riders – from complete beginners to experienced club cyclists – on this 300 mile route. You’ll start at Crystal Palace in southeast London and finish at the Eiffel Tower in the heart of Paris, working your way though gorgeous countryside and quiet country roads.

As with all our events, everyone who takes part will receive a special runners vest and fundraising pack, as well as support from the CHECT team.
