As a small charity the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust needs to make every penny count and keep a tight rein on the budget, always using the most competitive suppliers available and taking up any offers of services and skills that may come our way. The CHECT team has truly mastered the art of making a little go a very long way!

The trust receives no Government funding, so relies heavily on supporters for income and we’re extremely fortunate to have such an enthusiastic band of fundraisers. This form of income can however present us with challenges as we never really know just how much income we will have to work with from one year to the next – we can do our best to forecast based on experience but it makes planning for the future, especially in the long term, extremely difficult.

We launched the Friends of CHECT scheme so that we may build a stable stream of income for the charity. When supporters and members give regularly like this it enables us to plan ahead and target the funds to the right areas where it will be most effective in achieving what the charity has set out to do (read more HERE).

Our last survey showed Childhood Eye Cancer Trust members are really happy with the level of support available when their child is first diagnosed and is in treatment, but there is still so much more we could offer outside the hospital setting when other forms of help are no longer available. We still have a huge awareness raising challenge and would like to increase funding for research projects into causes and treatment for Rb. This is where regular giving really comes into its own.

Any amount you can donate to CHECT is extremely welcome but to become a Friend of CHECT we ask you to make a commitment to give regularly to the charity at least £3 a month. In return you will receive a limited edition pin badge and a car sticker but the real reward is in knowing your money is making a real difference to what the charity can achieve. One day in the future a research programme funded by the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust might lead to a child not needing to have their eye removed or to every parent knowing the signs of Rb.
