Hi! My name is Jaxon.I am eight-years-old. I am from Dublin, Ireland. I travel over to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for my appointments. I was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma when I was two-years-old. I have had many different types of treatments.Ten days before my third birthday I had my right eye removed. After I had my eye removed, I continued having treatment to the left eye. My tumours were stable for few years then April 2023 I had a reoccurance and needed more treatment. My last treatment was in December and I am now having regular check ups.
Although I have been to many hospital appointments for treatment, scans & checkups I never let Rb stop me from doing all the things I love which is playing sports and having only one eye has not restricted me from playing sports.
I play sports every single day. I play soccer, Gaelic & hurling (these are Irish sports).I always ensure that I wear my sports googles when playing these games and when in the school yard to protect my remaining eye.
I have always been made aware and understand the importance of protecting my eye and my team mates think my sports googles look pretty cool. They were curious to know why I was wearing them, once I told them why they were very expecting.
I am really comfortable wearing my googles as they have a prescription in them and they also have a strap that goes around the back of my head and attaches onto the googles so that they don’t fall off my face while i am playing and there a really good fit, they feel very secure on my face. I feel confident playing when I wear them.
