Seven runners braved the bracing February weather on Sunday to raise funds for families affected by retinoblastoma at the Hampton Court Half Marathon.

It’s the first time that we’ve had a team at this event and we were delighted that everyone finished the course and told us what a great day they’d had.

The runners were supported by a team of 11 volunteers who acted as race marshals on the day, representing CHECT and cheering on the athletes as they tackled the 13.1 mile course.

Fiona Heath, Supporter Engagement and Fundraising Manager, says: “The course was flat and scenic and everyone who took part said what a well organised event it was. So far we’ve raised more than £1,800, which will go a long way towards helping children and their families affected by Rb.

“We’re so grateful to everyone who generously gave their time to run or volunteer at this event – we simply couldn’t do what we do without the support of our families and the public. Thanks for being a part of Team CHECT and for making it such a great day.”

Patrick Tonks, Chief Executive of CHECT, ran with his son Sam. He says: “The Hampton Court Half Marathon is such a great event to be a part of and Sam and I had a fabulous time, although our legs haven’t forgiven us yet!

“I thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to meet some more of our wonderful members and supporters and I hope to see you again next year.”

Have a look at our photo slideshow below to see some pictures from the day. If it’s made you feel motivated, why not sign up to a running event for CHECT? We have four charity places available for the Great North Run and will be allocating our 2017 London Marathon places later in the year.

There are also lots of other running, cycling and trekking events taking part across the UK that you can sign up for and raise funds for CHECT. Have a look at our fundraising challenges page to find out more.
