We spoke to Courtney Banfield, the author behind ‘Retinoblastoma and Me’.
Can you tell us what your book is about and called?
The book is called ‘Retinoblastoma and Me’ and is based on Junior who was diagnosed with retinoblastoma in September of 2023. It documents his journey over the first year of his diagnosis.
What inspired the book?
Junior inspired me to write the book to tell his story.
What process did you take to create the book/illustrate it/publish it?
I wrote and created the book using Canva and published it via Amazon KDP. I hope to one day self publish via a book store.
What advice would you give to others who would like to write a book?
Even if it takes time stick to it, I am currently in the process of developing a series and its very therapeutic. I would say never give up and remember that your words mean something.
What does Junior think of the book?
Junior loves his book and had lots of fun seeing pictures of himself and his story. He is going to school next week to show his teachers his book as a part of his homework.
